Dragon Touch y88x Review

The Dragon Touch Y88X tablet 2015 is an entry level tablet that gives you and your family plenty of bang for your buck.

Like the Samsung Tab 3 Lite for Kids, this is another “grown ups” tablet that comes in a kid proof case

This tablet is ideal for children, the controls are well placed for little fingers to operate and if this fails there is voice control.

The kids interface has ” Zoodles”, where you can control what your kids have access to. The content in Zoodles adapts to the skill and age level your child is at.

Zoodles for Kids

Dragon Touch ZoodlesThe reason the Dragon Touch Y88X is so popular with the kids is the Zoodles Kids mode. The Parent Dashboard let’s you choose what you think is best for your kids. You can also keep track of what your kid has been playing and learning. With Zoodles your kids can play lots of fun educational games without any input from you (depending on their age) as the games are intuitive and easy to learn.

Another reason for this tablets popularity, is the entry price. If it gets broken it’s not going to break the bank trying to replace it.

Unlike the LeapPads, there are tons of free apps so you don’t need to be constantly purchasing new games. If you need more space, there is a micro sd slot for you to up the amont of st0rage space.

Like most Android devices, it’s easy to set up so your kids won’t get impatient, unless you decide to start playing games yourself!

The specs are what you’d expect from a budget tablet, it’s not the speediest of machines and older kids might not like the lag,

  • The battery can drain fairly quickly if used for lots of live streaming and the screen will sometimes freeze up when watching movies and the tablet requires re-starting.
  • The parental controls can be turned off fairly easily by an older child.
  • The Zoodles App is the basic edition, to get the premium edition with all the features you have to pay a monthly subscription fee.
  • Quad core or not, this  isn’t the speediest of tablets. It’s not horribly slow…but think about how patient your kids are.
  • The camera is pretty basic, again, the younger kids won’t notice and have fun but don’t expect much.
  • The display is ok until you try and view at an angle, it’s pretty bad. Locking the auto-rotate helps.

  • Nice form factor and it has good feel to it, a nice weight for kids.
  • The cover is comfortable, easy to grip, and provides good protection.
  • The “Kid Mode” will lock them out of the normal functions, even if they try rebooting it.
  • It can be charged via USB so handy for travelling.
  • The speaker is fairly decent for a cheap tablet.
  • Quick to charge.
  • The Zoodles app is great, the kids love it!

It’s an ok tablet for the price, you get what you pay for. It’s great for younger kids using Zoodles, older kids will likely get frustrated with the slow speed and poor display. If you don’t want to spend a lot buying a tablet for your pre-school kid then the Dragon Touch y88x is a good buy,
